A Presidential Message from Adrienne Perron

My name is Adrienne Perron and I am a junior journalism major/ French and leadership minor from Wells, Maine. I have been the editor of Outcroppings for the past two years, and am now passing down my duties to the two newest editors, Shannon Cahalane and Riley Steward, as I will be stepping in as president in the Fall (but Outcroppings will always be my baby!)

I am looking forward to taking on the role as president of the NHOC and have lots of ideas that I hope will come to fruition with the help of other members of the club. Some of my goals

include introducing diversity training through Safe Zones, a program at UNH, so we can be more approachable for students who come from more diverse backgrounds. Trained students come in and have an open panel and talk about how to work with other students who come from diverse backgrounds in the most effective way possible.

Also, I plan on trying to host more events featuring guest speakers, like the Andrew Drummond event we hosted last fall, that will reach more members of the community. I am also looking forward to having the opportunity to make the club feel more inclusive for students who are not leaders; both leaders and participants are “members” of the club, and I want to make sure that this is something that participants are aware of and feel is true.

One of the most important things I plan on bringing back this year is a greater sense of

community amongst leaders in the club. The NHOC is a very young club right now, meaning that active underclassmen seem to outnumber active upperclassmen. I want to try to make sure that all members feel comfortable with one another, comfortable with their own roles as

leaders of the NHOC, and empowered to become full leads ASAP!

I am excited to see what the next couple of semesters will bring for the NHOC, and am

passionate about making sure that whatever happens will be great. I’ll miss my job as

Outcroppings editor, but can’t wait to see all of the cool things that Shannon and Riley will do!

I’ll be sure to contribute in the next couple issues, since I know that it can be like pulling teeth

to get people to write for us!
