Acadia In Wintertime

This week, I had the privilege of sharing an Airbnb with a group of my friends and of course, Jack! It was a wonderful time, and the weather mostly cooperated! It was cold, but that is what I wanted from January in Maine.
What I learned (with much help from one Brooke Healy,) is that most of the park is inaccessible during the winter months. While that may dissuade many from even bothering to go up, only encouraged us. The burden of visiting a National Park is that you want to go to every famous and arguably most beautiful places in the park. However, the winter weather closed most of the big name attractions at Acadia. Cadillac Mountain was closed, Thunder Hole was closed, Park Loop Road was closed, and so on.
We were given the opportunity to take the road less traveled, and went up Beech Mountain, to a large fire tower. We went up Cedar Swamp Mountain, where we went and saw bits of a plane crash (Mostly buried in snow). We stopped at Bass Harbor Light, and watched the waves come up on shore. We managed to see Thunder Hole too! (what does "closed to rough surf" mean?) Additionally, we only encountered one other person on all our hikes. The park was basically empty.
All in all, visiting Acadia in the winter gave us a lot of underrated adventures and beautiful snow covered views. A HUGE THANK YOU to BROOKE HEALY for all her recommendations and advice!
