Who We Are
History

After its founding in the early 1900s, the NHOC has provided outdoor trips and events for UNH students ever since. It is the oldest and largest student organization at the University of New Hampshire.

The club owns two cabins conveniently located in the White Mountains. Jackson Cabin, which was rebuilt in 2008, sits only a short drive away from Mount Washington and the rest of NH's Presidential Range.
Franky Cabin, in Franconia Notch, was first built in the summer of 1934. This original cabin unfortunately burnt down in 1957 due to a propane explosion, and the current iconic red cabin was built shortly after.

NHOC trips frequently utilize these cabins as they are in such close proximity to countless outdoor adventures.

Trips
We lead trips nearly every weekend each month during the academic year, as well as some weekday trips, too! Activities include everything from hiking to rafting to skateboarding and so much more!

Don't forget about Spring Break and Summer trips, too! In the past we have ventured to incredible places out west during these breaks.

Trip signups occur on the first Tuesday of every month. Bring cash to signups - day trips usually cost $5 and overnight trips are $10 to $15.

Leadership

Are you interested in becoming a leader for the NHOC?
The club is made up of Assistant Leaders (AL), Co-Leaders, and Full Leaders. After attending a weekend-long Leadership Training, ALs work their way up to becoming Full Leaders by leading several trips, getting their Wilderness First Aid and Defensive Driving certifications, and helping out at a Work Trip (a trip dedicated to maintaining one of the cabins)!

Leadership Training happens once each semester and participants are chosen at random after showing their interest at scheduled info sessions.

Reach out to any current leaders/officers or shoot us an email if you have any questions about becoming a leader!
